Ankle Sprains and Instability
Ankle sprains are one of the most common problems in orthopedics. We divide the problems caused by ankle sprain in patients as acute and chronic. In the acute period, loss of function develops in patients due to swelling and pain in the ankle. In this period, we produce solutions for the complaints of the patients with various protection measures and physical therapy methods.
In the chronic period, the picture that occurs as a result of the recurrence of ankle sprains is called ankle instability. In this problem, there are recurrent sprains that develop in patients due to insufficient healing of the ligaments on the outer side of the foot as a result of sprains, and the resulting loss of function.
In these patients, success is achieved with physiotherapy in the early stages or in incomplete partial lacerations where some of the ligaments are damaged. however, we provide the treatment of patients by repairing the ligaments in complete laceration or in cases where physical therapy is not sufficient.
Ankle Arthritis
Ankle arthritis usually occurs post traumatically. Complaints such as limited joint movement, swelling in the joint, difficulty in movement and decrease in walking distance, which occur due to advanced cartilage loss after ankle fracture fifteen years ago, are in the foreground in people with this disorder.
Ankle arthritis most often occurs after fractures. however, ankle arthritis can also be observed in some rheumatic diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis.
In the early stages of the disease, success results are achieved in patients with physical therapy and intraarticular injections for pain. In these patients, success results are obtained with surgical treatment with fusion applications to the ankle joint or ankle prosthesis applications in advanced periods.
